Volunteer Interpreting Service

Kamakura City offers volunteer interpreting services to foreign citizens residing in Kamakura who need assistance with matters such as city office procedures or child daycare services.

The interpreters are dispatched to the following facilities:

Kamakura City Office (main and branch offices), schools,public and authorized private daycare facilities (hoikuen), etc.

Interpretation in 18 languages became available as of March 1st, 2010.
Available languages are (in order of  the number of volunteers):

English, Spanish, Chinese, French, Portuguese, German, Korean, Indonesian, Italian, Russian, Thai, Tagalog, Visayan, Danish, Hungarian, Bengali, Nepalese, Hindi and Urdu

All inquiries are completely confidential.
This service is free of charge. When requesting this service, please make advance reservations, by fax or e-mail, at the Cultural Promotion & international affairs division.
