EMERGENCY: FIRE
If a fire breaks out, dial 119 to call the Fire Department.
The number is simply 119 -- NO need to dial an Area Code number.
How to report a fire:
- 119 is the number for the ambulance, fire and rescue services, so be sure to state clearly that you are reporting a fire (kaji desu).
- Describe the extent of the fire and where it is.
If you don't know the exact address, try to give the name of a nearby building or street crossing.
If anyone is injured, describe the injury as accurately as possible.
- Give your name and the phone number from which you are calling.
Calling from a public telephone:
- First press the Emergency Call button on the telephone, and then dial 119.
You don't need to use a telephone card or coin: the call is free.
Calling from a mobile phone:
- if you are driving, stop your vehicle in a safe place, and then phone.
Describe the fire and report that you are calling from a mobile phone.
- The fire department may need to contact you again for more information, so be sure to keep your mobile phone switched on for at least 10 minutes after your initial report.
